| Day 1 USA-ICELAND Depart the USA and fly through the transatlantic night to Iceland. Day 2 REYKJAVIK Arrive Keflavik Airport early in the morning. Transfer on own to your hotel of choice, conveniently located in the heart of the fairytale capital of Reykjavik. Hotel: S/G/P Day 3 REYKJAVIK CITY SIGHTSEEING You are picked up at your hotel this morning for a two-hour' city sightseeing tour by coach. This tour is a great introduction to Reykjavik's past and present, covering such highlights as; The Pearl, a revolving restaurant on hot water tanks, Aerbær outdoor museum, where one sees houses and artifacts from times long past. Laugardalur outdoor swimming pool, a famous sculpture collection, Hofdi House, Hallgrimskirkja Church - a city landmark, the Alpingi Parliament, the City Hall and the fishing harbor. Hotel: S/G/P Day 4 THE GOLDEN CIRCLE TOUR A full day excursion to many of the wonders of nature for which Iceland is world famous. Over the Hillisheidi pass, to the village Hveragerdi and onwards to Kerid, an extinct volcanic crater that has now turned into a lake, before continuing to Skalholt, the site of the ancient bishopric. From there to Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, said to be the most beautiful in the country. The famous Geysir area will be visited, where hot springs are in abundance and the most active, Strokkur, sprouts every few minutes like the Old Faithful... Your last stop is at Thingvellir National Park, a place of great historic and geological interest and beauty. Hotel: S/G/P Day 5 OPTIONAL EXCURSION TO THORSMORK - THE VALLEY OF GLACIERS (Mid Jun-Aug only) Today you can do an optional full day excursion by bus to Thorsmork. Thorsmork is a beautiful nature reserve situated between three glaciers, Myrdalsjokull, Eyjafjallajokull and Tindafjallajokull - and one of the most spectacular places in the country. Passing through rough mountain tracks and crossing un-bridged glacial rivers adds to the delight and excitement of this spectacular area. The region has a surprising richness of bird life and arctic vegetation, wonderful rock formations and surroundings where the Icelandic mythology of elves and trolls comes to life. Visitors to Thorsmork have a unique opportunity to see nature at its best. A leisure hike in the calm area of Thorsmork with breathtaking view to glaciers and rugged mountains on all sides is a unique experience which rejuvenates your soul. Note: Some walking is required on this excursion. Hotel: S/G/P Day 6 EXCURSION TO AKUREYRI & LAKE MYVATN Early this morning fly from Reykjavik Airport to Akureyri (50 minutes). Board the bus in Akureyri and head for Lake Myvatn. You will visit Godafoss falls (The Waterfall of the Gods) along the way. Lake Myvatn is an area of incredible geological formations, as well as an internationally renowned bird-watching paradise. You have time for lunch at the lakeside hotel, before taking a sightseeing trip around the lake. The area is an explosive moonscape of mesmerizing lava formations, sulphur pits, pseudocraters, multi-colored pools of boiling mud and much more. Return to Akureyri for return flight to Reykjavik. Hotel: S/G/P Day 7 THE BLUE LAGOON Today's excursion will take you to the world famous Blue Lagoon, a man-made oasis in the lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula. The mineral contents of the water have been examined by experts, who have declared the combination excellent for bathing, healing and relaxation - so give yourself a healthy treat. Bathing in the lagoon is one of the highlights of a visit to Iceland. Hotel: S/G/P Day 8 REYKJAVIK Enjoy your last day in Reykjavik; visit museums, galleries or spend your last krone on shopping. Day excursions are available to Hafnarfjordur where you can ride an Icelandic horse or perhaps a relaxing tour to a horse farm outside the city? A trek on the hardy, sure-footed Icelandic horse is an experience to remember. Whether beginner or expert, these friendly horses, with their alert and willing nature, are indeed a pleasure to ride in their natural surroundings. Hotel: S/G/P Day 9 REYKJAVIK-USA This afternoon, transfer on own from your hotel to Keflavik Airport. Fly back to the USA. |
