Iceland - Volcanoes, geysers and rugged terrain
In geological terms, Iceland is the youngest land on earth - and has yet to grow up. The island is still in its adolescent years with two hundred volcanoes, of which thirty have erupted since the 9th century. There are spurting geysers and frozen waterfalls, eternal snow on the glaciers and hot springs for bathing.
The republic of Iceland has the world's oldest parliament, the Alting, established AD 930. Serene, clean, unpolluted and egalitarian, Professor Gwyn Jones describes Iceland; «in a country where everyone can trace his ancestry back to his favorite settler in the 9th or early 10th centuries, how can one man be called an aristocrat and another a wage slave?»

REYKJAVIK - «Smoking Bay» - was founded by the Norwegian Viking Ingolfur Arnason when he threw his chair pillar overboard in 874 AD claiming he would settle wherever they landed. 1126 years later Reykjavik has more than 100,000 inhabitants and is a fun, pulsating city with excellent hotels, restaurants and entertainment.

The surroundings offer unspoiled nature with an abundance of exciting activities on skis, snowmobiles, snow safari jeeps and glacial walks - only to be rivaled by the excitement of the Reykjavik nightlife.
