Day 1, Saturday USA-HELSINKI: Depart USA and fly through the trans Atlantic night to Finland. Day 2, Sunday HELSINKI: Arrive Helsinki's Vantaa airport in the morning and transfer by airport shuttle (not included) to downtown Helsinki. Check into your luxurious hotel, located in the very heart of Helsinki and only steps away from the city's main square, the Esplanade. Around this beautiful square you find stately buildings, department stores and numerous cafes and restaurant. To get a taste of Russia, why not treat yourself to a welcome dinner in one of the authentic Russian Restaurants? PETERSBURG: This morning your Russian adventure starts at 9.30, when you meet your Tour Director and fellow tour participants at the railway square. Your private de luxe coach takes you to the shores of the serene Lake Saimaa. Drive alongside the Saimaa canal through eternal forests to the border town of Vyborg, then through the Karelian Isthmus to St. Petersburg. In the city of Peter the Great, your hotel is located at the end of the main street Nevsky Prospect and within short commute to major sights. Hotel: Moskva B/D Day 5, Wednesday - ST. PETERSBURG: This morning offers a comprehensive tour of St. Petersburg, including such famous sights as Nevsky Prospekt, the Admiralty, Palace Square, Decembrist Square with the statue of Peter the Great, the embankments and canals of Neva River, Vasilyevsky Island with the State University and Peter-and- Paul Fortress. Lunch is served in a downtown restaurant before the tour continues to the Winter Palace, the former city residence of the Czars - today the world famous Hermitage Museum. Hotel: Pribaltiskaya B/L Day 6, Thursday ST. PETERSBURGMOSCOW BY OVERNIGHT TRAIN: Today includes an out of town excursion to Petrodvorets, a magnificent ensemble on the Gulf of Finland. Built in the 18th century as the summer residence for the Russian Czars, it includes the Grand Summer Palace with wonderful interiors, countless fountains and beautiful parks and gardens. On the way back to the city, lunch is served in a typical Russian restaurant. In the afternoon you pay a visit to the Peter-and-Paul Fortress, around which the city originally grew up and to its cathedral, the site of the burial vault of the Russian czars. Late evening transfer from the hotel to the railway station for departure from St. Petersburg to Moscow by overnight train (1st class private sleeping compartment for two). Hotel: Overnight Train B/L Day 7, Friday MOSCOW: Arrive Moscow in the early hours of the morning, followed by transfer to your hotel where breakfast is served. Freshen up after the train ride before taking the city tour of Moscow, including such sights as the Red Square and the Treatyakov Art Gallery. Hotel: Rossia (or Hotel National) B/L Day 8, Saturday MOSCOW-HELSINKI: After breakfast we visit the Kremlin area and one of the ancient cathedrals that now are open for worship after having been closed for over 50 years. Lunch is served at a local restaurant before proceeding to the enormous white-stone Church of Christ Our Savior. This five-cupola building was conceived in its time as a monument to the defeat of Napoleon's invasion in 1812. In the early evening you embark the overnight train (1st class private sleeping compartment for two) for a rail journey through the night back to Helsinki. Hotel: Overnight Train B/L Day 9, Sunday HELSINKI: Arrive Helsinki in the morning hours and check back into your hotel. Spend Sunday exploring Finland's capital on your own.
