Day 1, USA-COPENHAGEN. Fly from the USA through the transatlantic night to Copenhagen. Day 2, COPENHAGEN. Arrive Kastrup Airport and take the airport train to the city center (not included). Your hotel is conveniently located next to Copenhagen's city hall square, only a few steps from Strøget Pedestrian Street, the Tivoli Gardens and the central station. Explore Copenhagen on your own this afternoon - take a canal cruise from the Nyhavn harbor front or why not spend your first evening in the fun-filled Tivoli Gardens fantasy park? Copenhagen is a truly Wonderful city. Hotel: Kong Frederik Day 3, COPENHAGEN. After your first delicious Danish Buffet breakfast you are invited to a city tour of Copenhagen, covering all the major sights; Tucho Brahe Planetarium, pass the Tivoli Gardens and the New Carlsberg Glyptotek, through the colorful canal district, past the National Museum to Christiansborg Palace, where the Danish Parliament sits. Continue to the old Stock Exchange and cross the Kongens Nytorv with the Royal Theatre, world famous for its Royal Ballet. Then past Nyhavn to Amalienborg Palace, the winter residence of the Royal Family. This is followed by a visit to the Gefion Fountain and the Little Mermaid, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale. The coach tour continues to the magnificent Grundtvig Church, and on the way back you will pass Rosenborg Castle, where the crown jewels are kept. Hotel: Kong Frederik * B Day 4, COPENHAGEN-ODENSE. After a breakfast including the most delicious Danishes, start your journey of the Danish countryside. You rail or drive across the island of Zealand, cross the Storebelt Bridge the world's second longest suspension bridge, and arrive in Funen, the island where Hans Christian Andersen grew up in the village of Odense. Spend the balance of the day here, visit the fairytale writer's modest home and stroll around cobble stone streets and quaint markets. Hotel: Grand *B/D Day 5, ODENSE-FÅBORG. A leisurely morning sees you off to the village of Fåborg (rail passengers travel by local bus on own). Check into the castle hotel and enjoy a welcome drink and hors d'oeuvres. Hvedholm Slot dates back to 1570, but was built in its present architecture by Count Billie Brahe Selby in 1880. Be a count or countess for a couple of days, enjoy the parks, lounges, afternoon coffee/tea with chef's cake and the four poster rooms the castle has to offer. The 3-course dinner is served in the elegant dining room. Hotel: Hvedholm Slot * B/D Day 6, FÅBORG. A day to experience the tranquility of the Danish countryside! After a delicious breakfast explore Fåborg village with it's picturesque harbor overlooking the Funen archipelago and lush parks and gardens. This afternoon visit the 10ha. garden surrounding the castle, and English park with magnificent old trees, including the unique Hans Christian Andersen plane trees. Hotel: Hvedholm Slot * B/D Day 7, FÅBORG-ÅLBORG. Today's journey will take you on a scenic tour of the Danish countryside (rail passengers travel by local bus to Odense on own before boarding the train for Ålborg). Cross the Lillebelt bridge and arrive Jutland, the peninsula connecting Denmark with continental Europe. Continue due north to the second largest city Århus, before arriving the quaint city of Ålborg. Check into Hotel Scheelsminde, a former manor house from 1808 that has been converted into a lovely hotel situated in a large private park just a couple of miles from the center of Ålborg. Hotel: Scheelsminde * B/D Day 8, ÅLBORG & VIKING CITY. A full day to explore Ålborg on your own. More than a thousand years ago, Ålborg, with a present population of 155,000, was the capital city of the Jutland Province and was chosen by the Vikings as their home base before setting out on their conquering expeditions around the world. Today, a well-preserved medieval and commercial town. Ålborg is also an ideal base from which the traveler can explore the beautiful surrounding environs - it might even bring out the Viking in you. One of Ålborg's foremost attractions is Lindholm-Høje Denmark's largest Viking burial ground. It is definitely worth a visit. Hotel: Scheelsminde * B/D Day 9, ÅLBORG-COPENHAGEN-USA. Transfer on your own to the airport where you fly via Copenhagen back to the USA. This tour is operated with a minimum of 2 persons.
